GLP-2 stimulation data
Table of Contents
Description
The data come from a recent Danish study by Prahm et al (2023), about Glucagon-like peptide 2 (GLP-2), a regulator of intestinal growth and function. The main study aim was to compare the stimulation of GLP-2 secretion after eating different meals. Specifically, they compared three iso-energetic meals, where approximately 60 % of the energy ratio was provided as either carbohydrate, fat, or protein. Ten healthy volunteers were admitted on three occasions (at least a week apart) after a night of fasting. They were randomized to receive each meal (one per occasion) in a random order. Venous blood was collected for 240 min after the start of the meals, and plasma concentrations of GLP-2 was measured with specific radioimmunoassays.
Variables
Variable | Explanation (Unit) |
---|---|
ID | Patient ID |
meal | meal: High carbohydrate, High fat or High protein |
GLP2.minus.15 | Immunoreactivity of the GLP-2 at 15 mins before the start of the meal (pmol/L) |
GLP2.10 | Same, but 10 mins after the start of the meal |
GLP2.20 | Same, but 20 mins after. |
GLP2.30 | Same, but 30 mins after. |
GLP2.45 | Same, but 45 mins after. |
GLP2.60 | Same, but 60 mins after. |
GLP2.90 | Same, but 90 mins after. |
GLP2.120 | Same, but 120 mins after. |
GLP2.180 | Same, but 180 mins after. |
GLP2.240 | Same, but 240 mins after. |
AUC | Area under the curve of the change of GLP-2 concentration within 240 mins (pmol.min/L) after start of the meal. Change refers to change from baseline (15 mins before food intake). |
